Wilmington North Carolina City Profile
Wilmington was incorporated in 1739, but had been settled throughout the 1600s sporadically, and populated by English settlers in the 1720s. The city's port was a major resource for the Confederacy in the Civil War. Today, Wilmington is a popular spot for filming television and films, and was the shooting location for Dawson's Creek and One Tree Hill, among many others.
Featuring its historic downtown area as a popular shopping area, hotel and restaurant concentration, and historical attraction for tourists, Wilmington boasts the rare geological characteristic of sitting in the narrow area between a river and the Atlantic Ocean.
